Chariots of Fire (1981) follows two young track athletes who train for the 1924 Paris Olympics amid the classist and religiously divided UK of the post-WWI era. Eric Liddell (Ian Charleson), a devout Christian born to Scottish missionaries in China, sees running as part of his worship of God and refuses to train or compete on the Sabbath. Harold Abrahams (Ben Cross), the son of a Lithuanian Jewish immigrant, deals with antisemitism and class discrimination at Cambridge University and in British society. Chariots of Firewon the 1982 Academy Awards for best picture, best original score, best screenplay and best costume design.

She has appeared as a cultural commentator numerous times on the BBC World Service’s “The Arts Hour,” and she has served as a jury member at Sheffield Doc/Fest, Boston Sci-Fi Film Festival, and Edinburgh Film Festival.
