Bronx House School for Performing Arts is proud to announce auditions for their upcoming show Beauty and the Beast, Jr. Featuring songs from the Academy Award-winning animated feature, this abbreviated stage version includes music by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice. The production is the fifth of a successful collaboration with the acclaimed Riverdale Children’s Theatre. Interested children and teens will be asked to sing a short selection of their choice and should wear comfortable clothing and shoes to learn a brief dance combination.
Eight performances of Beauty and the Beast, Jr. are scheduled for two weekends from February 20th – 28th. The previous co-productions, The Wizard of Oz, The Little Mermaid, Jr., Annie, Jr. and Into the Woods, Jr. featured casts of 35 children joined by professional adult actors, and performed to sell out audiences.
The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed to his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.
The show will be directed and choreographed by Jazmine Dinkins with by Musical Direction by Linda LoPresti. Set and video design will be by Derek Woods. This is a tuition based program with some financial assistance available; however there is no charge to audition.
